Brad Pitt was the biggest surprise guest at his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston’s 50th birthday party in Los Angeles Saturday night—and his invitation and attendance came after careful consideration by both Aniston and Pitt, according to People and Entertainment Tonight.
People reports that Aniston is happy that he came but had been on the fence about inviting him originally. “Brad, for long, was a very important part of Jen’s life. She debated back and forth with friends if she should invite him,” a source said. “She was very happy that he showed up. Many of his close friends were at the party too.”
Aniston treated Pitt like any other guest. She “didn’t really pay any special attention to Brad,” the source said. “They hugged and chatted for a bit, but Jen was busy making sure all of her other guests had an amazing time.”
Entertainment Tonight got Pitt’s side of the story from its source. Pitt went because he “wanted to support” Aniston since the two have “been friendly” in the years following their split, ET’s source said. Pitt was added to the guest list weeks ago, and since he was in town, he “happily” chose to attend the party.
He wasn’t there for too long, the source added. “He came to support her, spoke to other friends of his that were there and headed out,” the source said.
Aniston and Pitt were married from 2000 to 2005. And after both Pitt’s marriage to Angelina Jolie and Aniston’s with Justin Theroux ended, a source made abundantly clear to People last February that while Aniston and Pitt are single and talk sometimes, a romantic reconciliation is out of the question.
“They aren’t in regular contact, beyond an occasional text back and forth to wish each other the best when there’s been a new project or big event,” People‘s source said.
“They broke up, and they did it because they had serious issues,” the source continued. “They’re not stupid. They remember why it didn’t work.”
